The Global Equality Caucus was proud to participate in the @legabibo High-Level Multi-Stakeholder Convening, which brought together civil society organisations, legal experts, parliamentary representatives, human rights defenders, youth leaders, and regional partners to engage in critical conversations on building a more inclusive Botswana. This two-day meeting provided a valuable platform to reflect on Botswana’s evolving legal and human rights landscape, while exploring the intersections of SRHR, equitable access to healthcare, parliamentary accountability, and the structural inequalities that continue to affect marginalised communities. Throughout the discussions, participants shared experiences, examined opportunities for legislative and policy reform, and highlighted the importance of strengthening democratic institutions that uphold equality, dignity, and human rights for all. The convening also underscored the critical role that Members of Parliament, civil society, and communities play in advancing inclusive governance and ensuring that no one is left behind. At the Global Equality Caucus, we believe that sustainable progress is achieved through dialogue, collaboration, and partnership. Bringing diverse voices together creates opportunities to build trust, identify common ground, and develop solutions that are rooted in evidence, accountability, and respect for human rights. Global Equality Caucus was proud to participate in the Anglophone Africa Health and Finance Committees Chairpersons Meeting held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 14–15 May, convened by @globaltbcaucus with support from partners including the Gates Foundation, the Global Fund, Gavi, Roche, Pfizer, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Global Parliamentary Platform on HIV and AIDS (GPP HIV). The high-level convening brought together Parliamentary Portfolio Chairs on Health and Finance, legislators, researchers, civil society organisations and global health partners from 13 African countries — Botswana, Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe — to strengthen collaboration on sustainable health financing, TB innovation, vaccine preparedness and resilient health systems. Representing the Global Equality Caucus were Sheriff Mothopeng, Africa Regional Manager, and Siwe Richard, Africa Regional Officer for West and Central Africa. Throughout the discussions, participants emphasised the urgent need to strengthen domestic financing for health, improve coordination around data generation and sharing, and accelerate regional collaboration through collective learning and partnership. Opening the convening, Hon. Stephen Mutinda Mule, Vice Chair and Africa Chair of the Global TB Caucus, called for stronger African-led responses to TB and public health challenges across the continent. “Africa is still the epicentre of tuberculosis and we must find an African solution,” he said. The Rt Hon Lord Herbert of South Downs CBE PC, Chair and Founder of the Global TB Caucus, reinforced the importance of political leadership and sustained investment in health innovation. “The challenge we face is not a scientific one. We have the means to beat TB and the technology is improving all the time. The challenge is to mobilise political will and the resources,” he said.
