Since its launch in 2023, the Africa Chapter of the Global Equality Caucus (GEC) has rapidly grown into a dynamic and impactful network of legislators and partners committed to advancing LGBT+ rights and inclusive governance across the continent.

Our Milestones

Africa Chapter Launch & Regional Strategy (2024–2025)

Officially launched in November 2023, the Africa Chapter introduced its strategic framework to guide activities and engagement across the region.

Network Growth

What began with just 5 founding members has grown to a network of 53+ legislators and advocates from across Africa.

Parliamentary Engagements

Meaningful partnerships, Parliamentary engagements and legislative dialogues have been initiated in Lesotho, Malawi, and Botswana, marking a growing commitment to equality.

Key Publications

The chapter led the development and launch of the Eastern & Southern Africa HIV Prevention Handbook for Legislators, offering practical tools to integrate HIV prevention and LGBT+ inclusion into public policy.

Global Equality Summit 2024

GEC was proud to host the inaugural Global Equality Summit in Africa, showcasing the region’s leadership in building inclusive spaces in the region.
