European Parliament

The Global Equality Caucus has published a new HIV policy guidebook targeted at high-income countries at a launch event in the European Parliament.Hosted by Alessandro Zan MEP, the roundtable highlighted the utility of the guidebook for legislators, and examined what MEPs should be doing to pressure the European Commission into sustaining an EU-wide HIV response.

Global Equality Caucus participation at ILGA Asia Conference

Global Equality Summit

The Summit welcomed 50 legislators from 25 countries, including equality champions from multiple countries where homosexuality is criminalised.

AIDS 2024

Europride Valleta

The Global Equality Caucus coordinated with the conference organisers to ensure a meaningful role for legislators attending EuroPride, with sessions focused on legislative advocacy as part of the main conference plenary, in addition to multiple side events outside of the conference agenda.

Activities includes a private roundtable organised by GEC in partnership with the British High Commission Malta and the Office of the Maltese Parliamentary Secretary for Equality, and a community panel discussion organised by GEC in partnership with For A Diverse Hungary, featuring legislators from Central & Eastern Europe to highlight examples of progress on inclusive legislation despite recent backlash against LGBT+ rights.

ERC-adjacent event in Buenos Aires

GEC publishes new report to shine light on global HIV criminalisation. With support from the Global Fund, we brought legislators from across Latin America to attend the summit. Our Deputy Chair, Tamara Adrián of Venezuela, featured on a panel where she talked about the role of legislators in changing the law, with Susel Paredes of Peru speaking on a panel assessing the rise of anti-gender movements around the world.

EuroPride Belgrade

GEC launches HIV prevention handbook at EuroPride event with legislators. Attendees heard from Marc Angel MEP, Co-President of the EP LGBTI Intergroup, who spoke about the important role of legislators in HIV advocacy, as well as GEC Director Alan Wardle, who outlined how the handbook can be best utilised by legislators in their work. The programme included a legislators panel at the human rights conference and a meeting with the Serbian Prime Minister to get security guarantees for the Pride March.

Latin America chapter launch

Global Equality Caucus launches Latin America chapter in Mexico City. With the Global Equality Caucus established in Latin America, we began to focus on promoting LGBT-inclusive legislative action in the region including efforts to ban conversion practices, fostering trans inclusion, encouraging LGBT+ people to run for political office, and supporting elected officials in their work by giving visibility to campaigns and connecting like-minded colleagues across borders.

WorldPride Copenhagen 2021

Fast Track Cities

The Global Equality Caucus HIV Prevention Handbook was presented at Fast-Track Cities 2024. African Legislators for Equality

The Global Equality Caucus officially formalised its chapter in Southern Africa with the launch of a Southern Africa regional network. The day-long event, ‘African Legislators for Equality’, brought together 20 legislators from 11 countries for a series of dialogues with regional civil society groups, inclusive businesses, international organisations and government officials from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Sydney WorldPride

As part of Sydney WorldPride, the Global Equality Caucus convened legislators, government officials and civil society representatives for a working dinner to discuss LGBT+ rights in the Asia-Pacific region. The meeting, organised by the Caucus and hosted by the British Consulate-General Sydney, looked at legislative progress on equal rights in the region as well as the challenges that remain for LGBT+ people. Most importantly, legislators were able to identify how the Caucus can support their work, and civil society partners spoke about how lawmakers can work with them to advance priority causes.

The Global Equality Caucus launched the Asia-Pacific edition of its HIV Prevention Handbook at an event during Sydney WorldPride. GEC’s legislative delegation included MPs from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands and the United States. Other legislators attending included Australian Senator Louise Pratt, Victorian Shadow Minister for Equality James Newbury, and local Sydney MP Alex Greenwich, who co-hosted the event.

The Global Equality Caucus completed its launch in Latin America with an event in Buenos Aires. Opened by María Cristina Perceval, the Argentine Secretary of Equality & Diversity Policies, and Tamara Adrián, Deputy of the National Assembly of Venezuela and GEC Deputy Chair, the event was attended by legislators from across South America, as well as Argentine government officials and civil society representatives from the Federación Argentina LGBT and the Frente Nacional Orgullo y Lucha.

Ban Conversion Therapy Now

Global Equality Caucus launched our global campaign: Ban Conversion Therapy Now! The Caucus asked legislators to sign the pledge on our website.
