Launched in 2022, the Latin America and Caribbean Chapter of the Global Equality Caucus has grown into a dynamic and impactful alliance of legislators, civil society groups, and global partners, all united in promoting LGBT+ rights and fostering inclusive governance throughout the region.

Our Milestones

Latin America Chapter Launch & Regional Strategy (2022)

In April of 2022, the Global Equality Caucus launched in Latin America at an event in Mexico City, which brought together legislators, LGBT+ officials, activists and human rights champions from across Central America and the Caribbean.

GEC continued the Latin America launch in Buenos Aires, Argentina in May of 2022. The event was attended by legislators from across South America, as well as Argentine government officials and civil society representatives from the Federación Argentina LGBT and the Frente Nacional Orgullo y Lucha.

Network Growth

The Chapter has steadily expanded its reach, increasing the number of elected officials joining our network and strengthening connections with local and regional LGBT+ leaders.

Parliamentary Engagements

Legislative dialogues and partnerships have been developed in Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile, supporting ongoing advocacy for inclusive policies and legal protections.

Key Publications

The Chapter launched the HIV Prevention Handbook for Latin America, presented in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and Brazil (with a Portuguese version for Brazil), providing legislators with practical tools to integrate HIV prevention and LGBT+ inclusion into public policy.

As part of our global advocacy, the Chapter supports efforts to ban conversion therapies in Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, and Argentina, aligning with international momentum for legal protections.
