Global Equality Caucus launches global campaign to Ban Conversion Therapy Now!
The Global Equality Caucus has today launched a campaign to Ban Conversion Therapy Now!
So-called conversion therapy is the umbrella term for a range of practices that attempt to change, suppress or divert somebody's sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. These 'therapies' can cause enduring psychological and physical harm to LGBT+ people and must be outlawed.
Yet only four countries around the world have introduced nationwide legal measures to ban conversion therapy.
Legislators and elected officials must act. The Caucus will mobilise lawmakers everywhere to sign a pledge to support efforts to ban conversion therapy around the world.
The campaign will run until next year's Safe to be Me LGBT+ rights conference, taking place in London in June 2022, where the Caucus will assemble international legislators and present a public declaration condemning conversion practices.
The Caucus is asking legislators to sign the pledge on our website. Additionally, members of the public are encouraged to use the lobbying tool to locate their elected representative and send them a letter asking that they support the campaign.
