Rainbow Voices: The New Zealand Parliamentary Story of LGBT+ rights
From staring down thousands of protestors, to Parliament narrowly passing bills giving fundamental rights to LGBTQ+ people, this documentary showcases personal stories of New Zealand's turbulent Rainbow history. To celebrate the reopening of the 'Rainbow Room' at New Zealand Parliament, we spoke with parliamentarians and community members - to hear the stories of those who fought for and won significant change, and to hear about their impact today.
The New Zealand Parliament has produced a short documentary film on the history of winning LGBT+ rights in the country, showcasing the personal stories of parliamentarians and activists who have fought for and won change.
The documentary celebrates the reopening of the NZ Parliament’s Rainbow Room, which recognises the history and contributions of LGBT+ parliamentarians as well as the history of legislative reform.
Louisa Wall, founding member of the Global Equality Caucus and a Member of the NZ Parliament, is one of the voices featured in the film, which can be viewed above or at this link.
