Global LGBT+ conference in London confirmed for May 2020

The UK Government has confirmed that it will hold a three day international LGBT conference in London next year from 27-29 May*, and the Global Equality Caucus will be holding its own parallel event for legislators as part of the overall conference.

The conference is being held as the UK is co-chair of the Equal Rights Coalition with Argentina but will be a wider international LGBT+ event with a broad remit over three days.

The conference is expected to cover various policy objectives, including progress on decriminalisation, reducing violence and discrimination, and promoting LGBT inclusion in areas such as health and education.

Civil society organisations have already been engaged to discuss objectives and delivery, and the government also intends to involve businesses in the conference.

The Global Equality Caucus will be partnering with the UK Government to ensure the presence of parliamentarians and elected representatives and to highlight their role in achieving global LGBT+ equality. Our parallel event will be the Caucus' first global conference and will be an opportunity to share ideas and experiences on best practice and to link legislators with other stakeholders from civil society and business.

We will be engaging with members of the Caucus about possible attendance once further details and arrangements are in place. For more information in the meantime, or to signal your interest in getting involved, e-mail our Caucus Director Alan Wardle at director@equalitycaucus.org.

* UPDATE (March 2020): owing to the impact of COVID-19 the Conference, ‘Safe to be Me’, has been postponed. The UK Government will announce a new date in due course.
