Global Equality Summit to bring legislators and stakeholders together for international dialogues

The Global Equality Caucus is excited to announce that we will host our inaugural international convening later this year in Cape Town, bringing together legislators from across the world to discuss how to overcome shared challenges as we advocate for LGBT+ rights.

The Global Equality Summit is expected to welcome up to 60 legislators from over 25 countries, as well as stakeholders from civil society, inclusive businesses, governments and multilateral organisations.

It will be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa, on the sidelines of the ILGA World conference which is also taking place in Cape Town in the same week. The ILGA World conference will bring hundreds of changemakers to the city to discuss LGBT+ advocacy, with our legislators summit running alongside to maximise political engagement with the inspiring activists attending the ILGA event.

The summit will run across three days:

11 November - a special ILGA World pre-conference session, held at the same venue as the main ILGA World conference. This day is only open to individuals who are registered for the ILGA World conference and will be focused on facilitating dialogues between members of our regional Southern Africa network.

12 November - the first full day of the Global Equality Summit, welcoming all delegates for a series of plenary sessions and keynote speeches featuring global changemakers.

13 November - the closing day of the Summit, with workshops and regional roundtables to focus on targeted policy action and how the network can provide technical support to legislators.

The summit programme will have a major focus on how we can drive Global South leadership on LGBT+ rights, creating opportunities for South-South engagement by connecting legislators from across regions to share knowledge and strategies.

First round invitations will be sent to selected GEC members in the coming days. If you would like more information at this stage, please email our Interim Director Aron Le Fèvre at aron@equalitycaucus.org
