Global Equality Caucus work plan for 2021

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, our work in driving progress towards LGBT+ equality has continued. Although the pandemic has kept us apart, our focus remains on amplifying LGBT+ voices and defending the rights of people who may feel ostracised and ignored during these uncertain times.

Now, more than ever, it is important to connect legislators with civil society and the public to ensure LGBT+ issues do not fall down the agenda, at a time many of us are living with increased restrictions on our lives.

To this end, the Equality Caucus - supported by Google - is continuing our new initiative, Lawmakers for LGBT+ Equality, a digital series of events that bring together lawmakers and LGBT+ leaders to discuss the issues that matter.

The first event, which took place in South & Central America in December, is now available to watch on our YouTube channel.

Here's what else we have planned for 2021:

  • Our Oceania event will debut on YouTube this month, with more information to follow shortly.

  • Civil society and lawmakers, including the EU Commissioner for Equality, will be brought together in February for our Europe event.

  • Events in Asia, Africa, and North America & the Caribbean will follow in the Spring.

  • We are continuing to partner with the UK Government to deliver an international LGBT+ rights conference, delayed from 2020 due to the pandemic. The conference will convene nations in the Equal Rights Coalition, plus host the IDAHOT+ Forum and bring together delegates from national governments, civil society and business.

  • We aim to host a summit for parliamentarians from across the world alongside the main conference, the first dedicated global summit for LGBT-supportive legislators to discuss progress towards equality.
