GEC welcomes public health expert as new Regional Officer for West & Central Africa

The Global Equality Caucus is pleased to welcome Siwe Richard as the new Regional Officer for West and Central Africa (WCA). In this role, Siwe will drive legislative engagement, advocacy, and partnerships across the region, working hand in hand with legislators, civil society, and grassroots organizations to advance LGBT+ inclusion and equality.

With more than eight years of experience in public health, advocacy, policy development, and movement-building, Siwe brings a wealth of expertise and a deep commitment to social justice. Before joining GEC, he worked with Affirmative Action and Action for Care to implement Global Fund and PEPFAR projects aimed at addressing HIV among key populations.

On his appointment, Siwe said: "I joined the Global Equality Caucus to be on the front lines of a critical, data-driven approach to change. The work we are launching in the region, supported by the Elton John AIDS Foundation, is essential because it moves beyond advocacy and into actionable support. By empowering parliamentarians across West and Central Africa with the tools, research, and networks they need, we are building a sustainable infrastructure for equality that will protect and uplift LGBT+ people for generations to come. In a region where legal discrimination is still prevalent, this work is about saving lives and affirming human dignity. It's about ensuring that our champions in parliament are never alone in the fight for a more just and equal future."

GEC looks forward to advancing this vital work under Siwe’s stewardship, strengthening collaboration with key regional partners to ensure that equality and human rights advance through legislative action.
